‘Fashion Meets Art’ at Lane Crawford Jacky Tsai X Lane Crawford
20th May 2013 Hong Kong and Beijing
In May 2013, Jacky Tsai joined Lane Crawford’s Fashion Meets Art presentations in Hong Kong and Beijing, bringing his work into the department store alongside its fashion collections. Taking place in both cities, the project combined framed prints, sculpture, wall graphics and set designs across different areas of the store, with an exclusive limited-edition print created for the occasion.
At the centre of the Hong Kong presentation was Paper Floral Skullpture, a large-scale installation that translated Tsai’s floral skull imagery into a three-dimensional form. Intricately constructed from paper and painted by the artist on site, its surface took on an expressive, Jackson Pollock-inspired effect. The work invited visitors to encounter the floral skull at a physical scale, moving beyond the printed image.
The meeting of flowers and the skull is central to Tsai’s visual language. Organic forms soften a familiar symbol of mortality, bringing beauty and decay into the same composition. Within the store, this contrast connected the artist’s sculptural work with the imagery of his prints and the surrounding fashion displays.
The collaboration formed an early chapter in Tsai’s presentations in Asia, bringing his practice between Shanghai and London to audiences in Hong Kong and Beijing. It also explored how art could be encountered within everyday spaces, through both a large installation and a print that visitors could take home.
Interviews with South China Morning Post and Tatler accompanied this period, recording Tsai’s ideas about fashion, cultural identity and the origins of the floral skull.

Beijing — Floral Skulls in Leather
Alongside the Hong Kong presentation, Fashion Meets Art also took place at Lane Crawford in Beijing. Here, Tsai presented a group of smaller skull sculptures made from leather flowers. Displayed individually in glass cases, the works brought the floral skull into an intimate, sculptural form, complementing the large-scale paper installation in Hong Kong.
